about

I wrote this song in memory of my Aunt Liz and my Grandmother Dorothy who I never met as she died when my father was only 8 years old.

lyrics

1. Would you have sung a lullaby under the blue Jamaican sky
Would you have walked the road to school, children up high upon the mule
Did you worry, with your man so far away
Did you miss him, when you came out here to stay

2. Leaving your life, your house, your home
Leaving your husband all alone
Living in 1944, working in London in the war
Did your painting somehow help to ease your mind
Softly playing piano in the evening time

3. But you were not to live for long, leaving a daughter and a son
Taking your brush she learns to weave beauty in everything she sees
Did her painting help her cross a sea of time
Feeling closer, colouring the evening time

4. Finding a way to save the land, painting it's lines with brush in hand
Living a life so strong and rare, making a home for all to share
Now we gather to remember all her years
Celebrating, honouring her, shedding tears

5. And now the world is slowly turning
And now the earth is turning round
And now my heart is slowly burning
Into the leaves, the land, the ground
And all the leaves are falling down
Yellow and gold and red and brown
Would you have sung a lullaby
Under the blue Jamaican sky

6. And now the world is turning, slowly turning
Turning into dust
And now the world is turning, softly turning
turning into light
Into the light inside my heart
Into the light, into the air and into love
Love, love, love.....
